Strong Partnerships To Personalize Learning

We are a unique school community that requires a strong partnership and communication between teachers and learning coaches (parents) to make sure that each student is learning and growing. Personalized learning is a priority at Omaha Virtual School (OVS) to ensure that students are being challenged at the appropriate skill level, while leveraging their strengths and interests.  The personalized learning plan (PLP) is one way that the OVS team identified to help us personalize each student's learning experience and communicate with students and learning coaches (LCs) so that we are all working together towards the same learning goals.  As you see in the visual below, our students are at the center of what we do!

 How it works?

Students and teachers worked together to start the personalized learning plan during class and shared it during parent teacher conferences, for learning coaches to add input. This is a 3-4 page document (see excerpt below), and it contains information about a student's:
  • Interests/hobbies
  • Learning styles
  • NWEA-MAP data
  • Goal setting based on NWEA-MAP data
  • Reading benchmark scores
  • Academic goals
  • Learning coach goals
  • Student schedule for learning at home
The personalized learning plan varies based on the students age/grade and the goal for each classroom. The plan will be referred to and addressed throughout the school year to make sure students are on track and working towards their goals. Teachers will support LCs by providing suggestions, resources, and strategies to help students meet their goals.

We hope the PLPs add another level of personalization for students and learning coaches in our school community.
